First port of call: Ketchikan

Arrival in Ketchikan, Alaska - the first city of Alaska. It was a little rainy at first, but it soon cleared up!

A little mist to start the day with...

We decided to go on the Amphibus Duck Tour

These shops all sell "authentic Alaskan jewelry" and other nick-nacks (with a label on the back saying Made in China).

The steps you see on the left are used for Salon to cross over a street that normally would overflow in breading season.

Streets in Ketchikan are built on wooden poles, because the hills are made of granit. These little houses are one of the first streets of Ketchikan, and one of which used to be a brothel, where Mrs. Dolly was the Madame.

Madame Dolly purchased this house in 1919 for 800 dollars. She had other women working for her, and they charged 3 dollars per visit and 50 cents for the cleaning of boots. The street going here is called "Married Man Lane"  :) With this income, Mrs. Dolly paid off the house in full in 2 weeks.

Bald headed eagle. Like swans they pick a partner in the first 5 years of their lives and then stay with this one partner until they die.

One of the main means of transportation in Alaska
